At Iron Born Offroad, based in Las Vegas, we’ve seen all kinds of setups come through our shop—and more than a few mistakes that can lead to damaged parts, loose straps, or unsafe towing conditions.

🔧 Why Proper Tie-Down Matters

SXS vehicles like the Polaris RZR and Can-Am Maverick are bigger, heavier, and built with complex suspension systems. That means the way you strap down your rig needs to match that engineering.

Incorrect tie-down points—like strapping to axles, shock forks, or mid-suspension—can cause damage, wear, or complete strap failure. That’s why we broke it down into easy, shop-tested tips.

✅ 11 Key SXS Trailer Tips You Need to Know:

  1. Never Strap to the Axles – They’re not meant to be pulled on and can bend or break.

  2. Avoid Shocks and Shock Forks – These are sensitive and not load-bearing.

  3. Use the A-Arms (Near the Frame) – Grab near the ball joints for a more secure hold.

  4. Use the Trailing Arm Bracket – A solid rear tie-down point that works well in either direction.

  5. Tire Lasso Method – A safe and effective way to tie down without compressing suspension.

  6. Pro R Center Hook – Polaris designed this for a reason—use it if you’ve got it.

  7. Keep Your Straps Level – Angled correctly, they stop forward/backward movement best.

  8. Don’t Rely on Park Alone – “Park” won’t stop your rig from bouncing during transit.

  9. Watch Your Suspension Travel – Compressing it too much will cause straps to come loose.

  10. Load the Car in Low Gear – Protect your belt—loading in high can burn flat spots.

  11. Follow the 60/40 Rule for Trailer Balance – Keep 60% of the car’s weight forward of the trailer axle for safer towing.
