2025 Vegas to Reno Recap
A Legendary Race
The name itself—Vegas to Reno—captures the essence of American off-road. Traversing 500 rugged miles, and finishing under the high desert skies. It’s not just a race—it’s a rite of passage.
Vegas to Reno remains the longest off-road race in the U.S., born in 1996 under the guidance of BITD founder Casey Folks. This year’s event—held August 15, 2025 after qualifiers on August 13 and tech inspections on August 14—brought once again the trademark blend of unforgiving terrain, blistering heat, and tactical endurance.
Why “Vegas to Reno” Still Captivates
This past weekend reaffirmed that UTVs are leading the evolution of desert racing—fast, reliable, and engineered for the brutal conditions of the Nevada desert. Machines like the RZR Pro R Factory aren’t just surviving the longest off-road race in America—they’re thriving.
UTV Showdown: Polaris Outpaces Can-Am in a Nail-Biter
Despite temperatures soaring past 100 °F and average speeds peaking over 110 mph, it was Polaris’s Mitch Guthrie Jr. in the RZR Pro R Factory who captured the overall UTV win, finishing second overall among four-wheeled entries with a time of 8:19:14.
The finish was razor-thin: just a nine-second margin over Can-Am’s Cody Bradbury—one of the closest in recent memory.
From the first 100 miles, Guthrie was in a fierce three-way duel. At mile 300, the strategy changed: Cayden MacCachren surged in the mountains, grabbing a fleeting lead. But after quick roadside repairs two miles from the finish, Guthrie surged back ahead, sealing the win.
Final Thoughts: Off-Road’s Next Frontier
What really has the community buzzing is the potential future of Vegas to Reno after Best in the Desert’s merger with Unlimited Racing Group, the organization behind legendary events like The Mint 400. We’re looking at the possibility of one unified, premier off-road championship—bringing together historic races, bigger media coverage, and a more connected racing community than ever before. Vegas to Reno has always been iconic, but with this merger on the horizon, the next chapter could redefine what off-road racing looks like for years to come.
